- Do I need a college degree to become an appraiser?
- Not for entry-level Trainee or Licensed Residential roles. However, Certified levels may require a degree or college coursework, depending on your state.
- Can I take my appraisal education online?
- In most states, yes. Many boards allow online coursework as long as it meets AQB and state-specific requirements.
- How do I find a supervisory appraiser?
- Check with your education provider, professional associations, or appraisal forums. Networking locally is often the best approach.
License Progression
- What’s the difference between Certified Residential and Certified General?
- Certified Residential focuses on 1–4 unit residential properties, while Certified General allows you to appraise all property types, including commercial and industrial.
- How long does it take to upgrade my license?
- It varies. Most upgrades require documented experience hours over 12–30 months and additional coursework before taking the exam.

- Is the exam hard?
- It’s challenging but manageable with preparation. Our practice exams and review materials can help.
- How often do I need to renew my license?
- Usually every 2–4 years depending on your state. Renewal includes continuing education and a USPAP update course.
