How to Become an Appraiser in New York

Appraiser Assistant (Trainee) in New York

Requirements

  • Education: 79 total hours, including:
    • Basic Appraisal Principles (R-5) – 30 hours
    • Basic Appraisal Procedures (R-6) – 30 hours
    • National USPAP Course or Equivalent – 15 hours
    • Supervisor/Trainee Course for New York – 4 hours
  • Experience: None required
  • College Education: Not required
  • Online Courses: Allowed with proctored final exams

    • Find a Certified Residential or Certified General Appraiser to supervise you
    • Complete the Supervisor/Trainee course
    • Submit your application and background check to the NY Department of State
